They are BACK!!!!!
Shoemaker & Hardt has been a wonderful part of the Historic Downtown Wylie area for many years. This Coffee Shop and Country Store is a favorite with residents all across Wylie and the surrounding areas. Its a place to grab a drink, sit and visit, or enjoy a game of chess, checkers, or mancala. They also sell the most adorable gifts and have vintage-style sodas and bulk candy. They officially re-opened this past weekend after an extensive hail-damage related remodel. Not only do they serve wonderful coffee, they also hot chocolate and granatas for people like me who don’t drink coffee.
The Hail Storm that tore down and then reunited Wylie
If you are not from the area, you may not realize that we had not one, but two big hail storms this Spring that did major damage across Collin County. The storm on 3/23/16 caused damage to many homes and businesses – but the storm on 4/11/16 was even worse in Wylie. The April storm included record-breaking size hail stones and “significantly damaged” more than 80% of the homes and businesses in town. Almost 4-months later, some people are still displaced from their homes, living in hotels while contractors complete their repairs…but one ray of hope and sunshine in the area is the re-opening of Shoemaker and Hardt. It may have taken about 100 days – but the store is back and ready to serve the community. You can even buy a souvenier t-shirt stating “Awe Hail, I survived the Great Hailstorm”.
